Thanks for the feedback, the new version will greatly improve initialization for non-experienced developers. Hope to release it in a month or two.
It’s unlikely that there will be jQuery version in the main PhotoSwipe repository. But guys from Tuts+ wrote a tutorial on how to use new PhotoSwipe with jQuery http://webdesign.tutsplus.com/tutorials/the-perfect-lightbox-using-photoswipe-with-jquery--cms-23587 , it should help.

@Théophile Sandoz, thanks, please also post the link here in this GitHub issue - https://github.com/dimsemenov/PhotoSwipe/issues/771
I’m not planning to make Joomla version. So hope someone else will develop extension for this CMS.
@Holder, that's great, does your plugin have GitHub repository or some page on English that I can link to?
Working on it. And it’s gonna be great. You can subscribe here to get notified – http://dimsemenov.com/subscribe.html
@Chris Ferrari, there is no ETA, I'm just making it as it goes in a free time.
Definitely not this year. But there is a guy who's working on very simple version of it, no idea when he finishes it though.
Please elaborate for what do you need this feature. There are undocumented yet `zoomGestureStarted` and `zoomGestureEnded` events.
I doubt that I can write anything better than Leaflet, it’s very good library, and I don’t think that it’s worth to add this feature in PhotoSwipe, implementation will take ages.
Custom HTML in content of slides feature is under development. Though, there will likely be a touch events conflicts between PhotoSwipe and Leaflet iframe.
If you have huge images, consider using JUST Leaflet and switch between images via buttons, not via swipe.
